Scholarship is a financial award granted to a student on the basis of the student's academic or sporting excellence.

A bursary or grant is a financial award granted to a student on the basis of financial need.

A student loan is money borrowed from the government to pay for post- secon​dary and must be paid back.

All are forms of financial assistance.
